Product Description
About the Sindhu Seedless Mango Plant

Sindhu is an Indian mango variety (Mangifera indica) bred by ICAR-IIHR Bangalore, notable for its very thin, largely vestigial seed, giving it a much higher proportion of edible flesh than standard mango varieties.

Appearance & Flavour

The tree has glossy leaves and a rounded canopy, producing fruit with attractive colouring and rich, fiberless flesh. The notably reduced seed size means proportionally more usable flesh in every fruit.

Growing Conditions in India

Being an Indian-bred variety, Sindhu is naturally well suited to Indian conditions, wanting full sun and well-drained soil.

Planting Guide

Allow 6-8 metres of space in open ground for this tree’s mature canopy. Enrich the planting hole with organic matter.

Watering & Feeding

Water regularly while young, then reduce as the topsoil dries once established. Feed with organic compost ahead of flowering.

Pruning & Common Problems

Annual pruning after harvest maintains an open, productive canopy. Generally trouble-free.

Harvest & Culinary Uses

Fruit is ready once it reaches full colour and gives slightly to pressure. Eat fresh, its minimal seed makes for especially generous portions of flesh.

Frequently Asked Questions

By ICAR-IIHR in Bangalore, part of India’s mango research programmes.

Everything You Need to Keep It Thriving

A container-grown fruit plant is only as healthy as the mix it sits in. Skip plain garden soil, which packs down hard over time and cuts off oxygen to the roots — Sindhu Seedless Mango Plant performs far better in a mix built for drainage as well as nutrition. Our potting mix guide gives three simple recipes you can put together with ingredients from any local nursery, along with notes on planting straight into the ground.

How often you water should track the weather, not the calendar — daily in peak summer, down to once a week or less once things cool off. More container plants are lost to overwatering than to neglect, so always check a couple of inches down before watering again rather than sticking to a fixed routine. Full details, including a simple finger-test you can use on Sindhu Seedless Mango Plant and everything else in our range, are in our watering guide.

A light, regular feeding schedule keeps growth steady without pushing the weak, sappy shoots that come from overfeeding. Ease off as growth slows for the season, since unused fertiliser just builds up as salts in the pot. Our fertiliser guide lays out what to feed and when, month by month.

Monsoon brings its own risks for a potted fruit plant — mainly waterlogging and the fungal problems that follow when a pot cannot drain fast enough through days of continuous rain. Raising the pot slightly off the ground and checking that drainage holes are clear before the rains set in prevents most of the damage we see every year. Our monsoon care guide covers the full pre-monsoon checklist.

One more thing worth planning for: once Sindhu Seedless Mango Plant outgrows its current pot, moving up a size keeps growth from stalling, since a rootbound plant struggles to take up enough water and nutrients no matter how well you feed it. Signs it is time include roots showing through the drainage holes and the plant drying out unusually fast between waterings. Our potting and repotting guide covers exactly when to move up a size and how to do it without shocking the roots.
