About the Blood Malta Plant

Blood Malta is a pigmented sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), part of the same broad group of blood oranges made famous by Sicily’s Mediterranean groves. What sets it apart from an ordinary orange is anthocyanin — the same red-purple pigment found in berries, red cabbage, and grapes — which develops in the flesh and sometimes the rind as the fruit matures, giving the segments their distinctive deep maroon-red colour.
